Introduction to SHA Board Members
Soho Housing Association is a registered social landlord with charitable status and places great importance upon the involvement of its tenants and other local people in the running of the Association.
The Board makes decisions about the Association’s strategic direction, financial
viability and policy. Our Board has twelve elected members and three co-opted
members. The Board includes five tenants, local people interested in improving
housing conditions and a range of professional expertise. All members
of the Board serve in a voluntary capacity and do not get paid for their
services; nor do they undertake professional work for the Association.
The Board is responsible for deciding the policies of the Association and overseeing the work of the staff.
There are
three Committees reporting to the Board - Housing Services, Finance and
Audit & Standards. Due to the fact that many of our Board members
work we hold all our meetings in the evening – starting at 6.30
and finishing around 9pm.
We hold quarterly
Resident Forum meetings with representatives of our residents associations
and encourage residents to discuss areas for improvement and initiatives
they would like the Association to pursue.
How can I be more involved?
The Association is a community based organisation and
places great importance on the involvement of its tenants in the running
of the Association. All tenants are eligible to become members of the
Housing Association. Members can stand for election to the Board at the
Annual General Meeting. The Board has overall responsibility for the affairs
of the Association. There are currently 15 members, including 5 tenants.
There are
also three committees: one dealing with finances; one dealing with the
management of our properties; and one dealing with audit and standards.
These committees are made up of tenants, Board members, community representatives
and local councillors. They advise on the Association’s policies,
monitor services and take decisions on matters such as improvements, resident
involvement and complaints.
If you are
interested in joining the Board, please contact the Chair, Chief Executive
or Housing Officer. The names of the Chair, Secretary and other members
of the Committee are available from the Association’s office.
